LUCAS, Dwight Arthur - Surrounded by his family, it is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear father and beloved grandfather, Dwight Arthur Lucas, on May 26, 2020. He was a long-time resident of Cole Harbour. Born in Halifax, on September 20, 1945, he was the proud father of three children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Dwight joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1962 and proudly served his country until his retirement in 1994. After his retirement, Dwight worked for the Commissionaires as a postal carrier, where he served an additional 18 years. He was a lover of sports, especially hockey and baseball. He played ball and hockey for many years, coached both minor hockey and baseball and could be found on any given day of the week with his son Dwight "Lukie" encouraging him to be the best that he could be both on and off the ice. He was a strong, determined, no-nonsense "kind of guy" and expected no less from his devoted family and friends. Singing his heart out, with the radio constantly playing both in his car and at home, he had a passion for music and shared that gift with his children and of course back in the day was known to "cut a rug". Dwight was well-known and liked by many. He greatly looked forward to his weekly "shoot the breeze" with his buddies at the local Tim Hortons and daily chats with his friend Hollis, checking in on Brenda and Bob as well as his cousin Gary. He was known to ask his son, "what's on your agenda for the day", daughter Jacquelyn how her day was going, daughter Chris, "how's Pam and her chickens" and grandson Marquece, "what's up bub". Dwight was predeceased by his loving parents, John (Jack) Lucas and Helen Josephine (Tynes) Lucas; grandparents, Benjamin and Agnes Lucas and James Arthur and Mary Jane Tynes; as well as his brother, John (Babe) Lucas; as well as his aunt, Doris Fenty, with whom he shared a special bond. He is survived by brothers, Nick (Marie) Tynes, Ontario; Michael (Lee), Victoria; son, Dwight Jr. (Carolyn), Porters Lake; daughters, Christine, Dartmouth; Jacquelyn, Halifax; grandchildren, Dale Allen (Ashley), Edmonton; Marquece Christopher, Dartmouth; Tori (Colin), Dartmouth; Hayley, Porters Lake; Kelsey, Dartmouth; great-grandchildren, Trey and Arielle, Edmonton; as well as several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to all of the medical staff at QEII, Dialysis Department and family physician Dr. Steeves. Due to Covid-19 the family has made arrangements for the funeral service to be live-streamed.
