Died: 01 Oct 2013, Middleton, Nova Scotia

 

GOUCHER, Sherman Vaughan (Sam) - 73, of New Minas, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Tuesday, October 1, 2013 in Soldier's Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Annapolis Royal on March 20, 1940, he grew up in New Minas and was a son of Alberta (Longmire) Goucher, Kentville and the late George Goucher. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 17 and retired 32 years later. Upon retirement, he joined the Canadian Frigate Program as a Quality Inspector at the Irving Shipyard in Saint John from 1989-1997, retiring to Annapolis Royal and most recently moved to New Minas. He enjoyed all family gatherings from the oldest to the youngest. He particularly enjoyed playing cards, especially 45's and excelled in local tournaments. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Dianne (Fisher-MacNeil); sons, Brian (Debby) Hodges, Aylesford; Chris Goucher, Kingston; Tony (Edith) Goucher, Kentville; Tim (Darlene) Goucher, Dartmouth; step-daughter, Joanne (Brian) Head, Saint John; step-son, Michael (Emily) MacNeil, Michigan; brothers, George (Barb) Goucher, Hampton, New Brunswick; Peter (Libby) Goucher, Wolfville; sister, Elizabeth "Liz" (Art) Aucoin, Kentville; his first wife, Gladys (Smith); grandchildren, David, Kevin, Candace, Jessie and Wesley Hodges, Christopher, Shane, Sarah and Jessie Goucher, Crystal, Andrew and Nick Goucher, Matthew and Amanda Goucher, Brayden Head, Shane, Lauren, Liam and Cameron MacNeil; great granddaughters, Desere, Haley, Hannah and Heather; nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by daughter, Tina Goucher (Bob). Sam won many friends wherever he was. His outgoing personality and sincere caring for all of his family and friends will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, Reverend Doctor John McNally officiating. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
