In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
FULTON, Ann Monica - Lower Sackville, NS (formerly of Sydney Mines, NS) born 14 Nov 42 passed 19 May 19. As the sun rose above Citadel Hill in Halifax, our Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and best friend to Carl for over 55 years ascended into heaven. The pain of your passing, will not easily be accepted, we miss you already. After a short illness, Monica (“Gram” to those close to her) passed peacefully, surrounded by family members at the Halifax Infirmary just after 7 am Sunday morning. Gram, you would have loved that sunrise! Monica was the middle child of Hector and Evelyn (Grammie) MacNeil of Main Street, Sydney Mines, NS. She was predeceased by both parents and her younger sister Eileen. She is survived by her husband Carl, her sister Elizabeth (Sydney Mines, NS), Daughter Barbara (Brian Howie) Lower Sackville, Son Ian (Kelly) Osgoode, Ontario, Grandchildren, Jessica, Chelsea, Thomas, Corinne, Rachel, Great Grandchild Keaton and several nieces and nephews. She proudly said her Great Grandson made her “Great”, in our view, she was always great, Keaton just gave her an avenue to proudly state it, Gram (Monica, Mom, Great Gram), we agree! That was Gram’s way... In her early years, Gram spent some time in the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), in the 1960’s, as an X-Ray Technician. Once she met Carl, a young sailor from Almonte, Ontario, they decided she would retire from the RCN, they would marry and raise their family. Gram would relinquish her Able Wren rank and become the “Admiral” on the home front. Truly, best friends, she wasn’t just his wife, she and Carl were partners and best friends!!! In retirement, they chose Lower Sackville as home, a compromise between Ontario and Cape Breton, likely the “Admiral” had input here... Those fortunate enough to be close to Gram knew she had a quick wit. She often challenged the men in her life, Carl, Ian and Brian in conversation while giving her girls a quick wink and smile, Gram’s way of instilling independence in her girls and showing appreciation for the men in her life, without full admission. Yes, that was Monica, sometimes hard to read, all times truly enjoyable.…. Our family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff of the Halifax Infirmary, Floor 8.2. Gram’s final hours were very comfortable in large part due to the care of her “Angels on Staff”, Jamie (Jamie, Thank you so much!!) and Melanie. Your care, concern for our family and professionalism, was beyond reproach. We will miss Gram, she was our mentor, our support, our Matriarch. We love you Gram! As per Monica’s wish, there will be no service, no visitation or funeral, cremation has already taken place. In Monica’s own words to family and friends “OK love, By for Now”.
