DeGRUCHY, William George - 92, passed away January 8, 2008, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII. Born in Rencontre West, N.L., he was a son of the late Phillip and Elizabeth (Hardy) DeGruchy. He was a veteran of the Second World War. After leaving the navy he worked at the shipyards, and then the dockyard, retiring in 1979 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Fairview Branch 142, for 50 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Rachel Jane (Parsons) in 1980. He was a loving father to Betty (Arnold) Kelly, Barbara Jean (David) Carroll and Linda (Bill) Oakley. He is survived by six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Edith (Wilbert) Billard, and brother Edwin (Marg). He was predeceased by brothers, Jim and Tom. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday, January 10, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, January 11, in St. Peter's Anglican Church, Birch Cove, Halifax, with Rev. Randy Townsend officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will take place in St. John's Cemetery, Halifax. Donations may be made to Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Gardens, QEII. We would like to thank the staff of 4 East, Dr. J.F. WEDDINGS - DeGRUCHY - PARSONS - The marriage of William George DeGruchy, R.C.N., son of George Phillip DeGruchy of Hermitage Bay, Nfld., and Miss Rachel Jane Parsons, of Halifax, daughter of James Benjamin Parsons, also of Hermitage Bay, took place at 8 o'clock last evening in St. Matthias Church, Rev. Edward Morris officiating. Mrs. N. Barrie Coward presided at the organ, rendering the wedding marches. Mr. and Mrs. DeGruchy will make their home in Halifax.
