COTTLE, John Baudains - It is with sadness, the Cottle family announces the passing of John in his 95th year, in his residence in Kanata, Ont. Loved husband of the late Beverley Coupland; loving father of Wayne (Charlene), Chris (Janine) and Diana (Rolf Friis); special grandfather to Amber (Andrew), Gwen (John), Julia (Eamonn) and Jonathan (Carrie); great-grandfather to Rachel, Rylen, Oscar, and Martha. Born in London, England to Leonard and Laura (Baudains), predeceased. His beloved sister, Mary, predeceased in 1989, is survived by her daughter, Jennifer. John served with honors in the Royal Navy during the Second World War, then he immigrated to Canada in 1947 where he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. During his final 20 years of military service, John became a major contributing figure involved with the Sea King helicopters. John was awarded the Order of Military Merit (Officer) by the Governor General of Canada for his contributions made during his military career. Retiring from the military, with the rank of Lieutenant Commander, John finished his working career with St. John's Ambulance in Halifax. Due to the limitations imposed by COVID-19, there will be a private family visitation only, followed by cremation; there will be no funeral. John was buried at sea off of HMCS SACKVILLE during the "Battle of the Atlantic" Ceremony held on Sunday 01 May 2022. His wife Beverly was also buried at sea with him.
