In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
Submitted by Derrick Shillington: Barry "Fat Rat" McLellan. Barry was one of my Master Seaman on board HMCS ALGONQUIN. His smile was that of a Cheshire Cat. His motto was work hard and party even harder. He knew his job very well and taught me lots. I remember one time in a foreign port we went to a bar called something like "Lone Star" or Blue Star" and he wore a grey sweat suit with navy blue shorts over top and sneakers while wearing a Canadian flag as a cape and a sea survival cap with the light on top and a pair of safety googles and there he was "Captain Canada" in the flesh. He certainly was the life of the party.
