In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
WHALEN, Susan Kathleen (Sue) (née Currie)- age 73, of Halifax, formerly of Fall River, passed away on October 26, 2020 in the VG Site, QEII. Born in North Vancouver, she was a daughter of the late John and Gwendolyn Currie. Sue grew up in British Columbia and was posted to Halifax with the Royal Canadian Navy where she met her husband Ken. Here she raised her family, and later worked for many years with the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation. She was an avid gardener who loved the outdoors; her backyard habitat was her sanctuary. She was a member of Fall River Garden Club and she helped reestablish Jamieson Park. She always enjoyed volunteering and giving back to the community in which she lived. Her natural holistic approach to life and wild imagination came through in her first published book, Rooke's Island. All of her writings were inspired by the outdoors and her playful connection with her young grandchildren. Sue is survived by her daughter, Kendra (Stephen) Oliver; son, Dustin (Sheila Hynes); grandchildren, Victoria, Stephen, Elizabeth, Denver and Charlie; and her chosen sons, An Ngyuen, Joseph Nyemah; brothers and sisters-in law and many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all of her cherished friends from near and far. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Ken; Aunt Marjorie (Les) Robinson, and her sister, Sonia. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 5th in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth.
