EARL, Hubert George Henry - aged 81, passed away on December 20, 1989 at the Memorial Pavilion, Victoria, BC. A freeman of the city of Oxford, England, his place o birth, he immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1920. He enlisted with the RCNVR, serving as a Chief Petty Officer during the Second World War. His corvette, the WETASKIWIN participated in very heavy combat on the North Atlantic, was reported lost in a raging storm but returned safely. In 1937 he was one of two representatives of Winnipeg Contingent's Western Division at King George VI's coronation. He was assigned a position on the Queen Victoria Memorial before Buckingham Palace. He retired in 1973, completing 24 years as a civilian employee of Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt. recently he and his wife, Evelyn; eldest son, Gordon, of Ottawa; Robert and wife, Wendy, Langford; Evelyn Jewsbury and husband, (Rob) Robert, Victoria; Jim and wife, Bernice, St. Albert, Alberta; Eric and wife, Beverley, Victoria; thirteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brothers, Vernon, Kelowna; Gordon, Thunder Bay; William, Langley; Richard, Winnipeg; sisters, Cecile Hunt, Kay Jones, Winnie Hehnall, of Winnipeg; also numerous nephews and nieces. Predeceased by eldest brother, Roland, November 12, 1987. Service will be held Wednesday, December 27, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Luke's Church, 3821 Cedar Hill X Rd with the Rev. Canon H.I.G. Ragg officiating. Cremation to follow at Royal Oak Crematorium. Ashes to be interred In St. Luke's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
