HATT, Robert MacLean - It is with great sadness that the family of Robert Mac-Lean Hatt announces his sudden passing, at home, on November 12, 2020 in his 80th year. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Eva Louise (Pierce); and children, Dawn (Wesley) Hatt, Debra (David) Harris and Adam (Alma) Hatt. Boppie had a special bond with each of his grandchildren: Benjamin (Jasmine), Lori Ann (Evan), Melanie (Chris), Mathea, Cameron (Cody), Evan and Boppie's Mae-fly great-granddaughter, Ellara Mae Lenihan. He loved his kitty cat "Tippy". Bob was predeceased by his parents, Earle D. and Annie Mae Hatt (Swinimer); and his parents-in-law, Marion and Robbie Pierce. Bob was welcomed into Eva's family by her sisters, Rosalie (Charles) Berry, Thelma Pierce, Sheila (Dave-deceased) Cleveland; and brothers, Terry-deceased (Juanita) and Darrell (Susan-deceased). He is loved by his many nieces and nephew. Robert was raised in Chester Basin and graduated from Horton Academy with the class of 1958-59. He met the love of his life, Eva and went on to serve his country with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1960-1963. Eva and Bob were married in 1962. Following his discharge from the Navy they built a thriving custom home building business on the South Shore which they ran together for 52 years. Robert's company built the Chester Basin Everett Branch 88 Legion in 1972 where he served as President. He generously donated land to the new Chester Basin Volunteer Fire Department where he served as a Charter Member and a Commissioner. He also built the New Ross Credit Union and the addition to the Aenon Baptist Church in Chester Basin. Robert was a well-known and respected member of the community. He is remembered for his generosity, gentle disposition and sense of humor. His friends and family will always remember his generous heart and many days spent enjoying their summer home on Heckmans Island, on "Bobbin Around" and the Goose Lake camp where so many wonderful memories were made. Bob was happy spending time at camp, visiting his woodlots or milling lumber at his sawmill. He always had some sawdust on his sleeve and box of nails in his truck. He loved hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and snowmobiling and always had a project on the go. Bob and Eva spent many wonderful winter vacations in Cancun, Mexico. Funeral arrangements have been made through Davis Funeral Home. A graveside service in Lakeview Cemetery on Croft Road, Chester Basin, will be held Wednesday, November 18th at 2 p.m. with Rev. Joe Green officiating. The family requests that all attendees respect COVID-19 protocol for social distancing. Donations in Robert's honour can be made to The Heart Foundation, IWK Health Centre, Halifax or Royal Canadian Legion Everett Branch 88, Chester Basin, or SHAID Tree Animal Shelter.
