In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MELVILLE, Kenneth Norman - Passed away quietly amidst loved ones in his own home in Palmerston on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 after a valiant struggle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in his 76th year. Beloved husband of Elaine (Tomlin) for 47 years. Loving father of Brendan (Margaret) of Hanover, Carman of Toronto and Ryan (Patti) of London. He was predeceased in January of this year by his beautiful little grandson Nathan and is lovingly remembered by his other grandchildren Fallyn, Shayla, Danniel, Charlie and Makayla. Remembered also with great affection by his sisters Karen Widmeyer (Bruce) and Donna Melville and by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Larry and Ruth Tomlin, Bruce and Judy Tomlin and Ruth Anne and Howard Savage. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by one brother-in-law Kevin Tomlin in 2011. Ken was the son of the late Norman and Reta Melville and was born in Palmerston on August 16, 1939.
His children and grandchildren were very grateful to have celebrated his 75th birthday with him last August. Ken remembered all his life the happy experiences of his navy days as a young man based in Shearwater, Nova Scotia sailing on the HMCS BONAVENTURE. After trying out several jobs in his twenties he settled into a career at the Midwestern Regional Center near Palmerston, first as a counsellor and then a driver, taking clients and staff to many places in the Province. He retired from MRC after 25 years of service and had continued an active and happy life until the IPF gradually sapped his strength. Ken never lost his courage and love for others and his strong will to live kept him alert and caring to the very end.
The family will receive friends at the Heritage Funeral Home, Palmerston on Friday, August 14, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Rev. Calvin Brown will conduct the Funeral Service in the Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment in Palmerston Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations to Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
