In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
WINTER, Frances Margaret (Marg) (née FitzRandolph) - of Oromocto and Fredericton, joined her husband, Tom, on Thursday, June 19, 2014. She had been in Palliative Care at the DECH for two months.
Born, July 26, 1925, in Randolph, NB, Margie was the last surviving member of the family of the late Guy Allan and E. Kathleen V. (Balloch) FitzRandolph which included an infant brother, Guy, and sisters Mary K. (George F.) Ryan, Toronto, ON; S. Rachel (William) Taylor, San Diego, CAand Barbara A. (Murray) Kelly, Woodstock, NB.
Beloved wife, "Mag", of 61 years to the late RCMP Sergeant-Major Tom Winter, Margie leaves her children Alan and Shirley (Muise) Winter, Chetwynd, BC; Brian Winter, Calgary, AB; Douglas and Charlotte (Deakin) Winter, Fredericton, NB; grandchildren Bradley Winter, Nelson, BC; KrisWinter, Ottawa, ON; step-granddaughter Sammi Millar, Calgary, AB, nieces and nephews.
After graduating high school and attending business college in Saint John, Marg joined the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRENS) and was posted to Halifax until the WRCNS was disbanded in August 1946. Returning to New Brunswick, she trained as a nurse at Chipman Memorial Hospital, St. Stephen, graduating in 1950.
After her marriage, Margie lived in St. Stephen, Grand Falls, Saint John, St. Andrews, Grand Manan, Gagetown, Oromocto, Moncton and Charlottetown. As an RCMP wife in a single-member detachment, Marg often served as the "second man" – wives of members who helped their husbands provide policing services in small and isolated communities from the 1940s to the 1970s. After Tom’s retirement from the force, Margie returned to nursing in Maternity at Oromocto Public Hospital until her retirement in 1985.
Active in IODE and the OPH Auxilliary, Margie also volunteered with the VON, Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed needlepoint, knitting and never passed up the opportunity to play agame of bridge. Margie loved life and was always game for a bit of mischief.
At Marg’s request, there will be no visitation. A service of remembrance is scheduled for 1 p.m.Thursday, June 26, 2014 in the Fiddlehead Lounge, Governor Hall, Parkland, 35 Patience Lane ,Fredericton with Rev. Bob Jones officiating.
