LACHANCE, Gaetan Arthur -  - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gaetan Arthur Joseph Lachance of Lower Sackville, in the VG Site, QEII on Saturday, December 12, 2020. Gaetan passed away peacefully at the age of 73 while surrounded with the love and support of his family. Gaetan was born on March 26, 1947 in Thetford-Mines, Qué., the first of the eight children of André and Annette (Vallée) Lachance. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1964, eventually moving eastward to Nova Scotia, where he met and married his wife Gail (Brown). Gaetan proudly served his country with honour for 37 years and enjoyed a very successful career, retiring as CPO1st Class. His numerous awards and recognitions included being appointed a Member of the Order of Military Merit for his exceptional service.

Gaetan will be forever remembered by his loving wife Gail of 51 years. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Darcy); son, Jean-Pierre "JP" (Jennifer); and grandchildren, Dresden, Emmerie, Ava and Tessa. He will be sadly missed by his siblings, Nelson (Constance), Camille (Andrée), Louiselle (Guy), Marc (Carole), Yves, Hughette (Yvan); along with his niece and many nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, André and Annette; his brother, Jacques (Sylvie); mother-in-law, Anne Brown, and father-in-law, Reg Brown. Gaetan was a kind, caring and intelligent man. He was an avid reader with a passion for history and politics. A great conversationalist, Gaetan was well-versed in many topics. He loved music and going out dancing on Saturday nights.

Cremation has taken place. At Gaetan's request, in lieu of visitation or funeral service, his ashes will be scattered at sea. There is no memorial service planned at this time. The family would like to thank all of the health care professionals from the VG Site for their great care during the final days of his life. In memory of Gaetan, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Although our hearts are heavy during this time of sorrow, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven watching over us. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald 17 Dec 2020)
