In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
TAPLAY, Robert Scott - On Monday, December 14, 2020, at the Bruyere Hospital in Ottawa after a brief battle with cancer, age 75 years. Bob is now reunited with his best friend Cheryl, his beloved wife of 51 years. Father of Kimberlee, Tammy, late Stephanie, and Kyle (Bhavna). Proud papa and grandpa to Taylor, Avery, Shawndra, Justin, Michael, Teghvir, and Manvir, and great-grandfather to Isabelle. Son of the late Frank and Sarah (nee Scott) Taplay, brother of late Jim (late Heather) and John (late Dianne), and brother-in-law to late Lennon Nicholson (late Shirley), late Bruce Nicholson (Helen), late Darrell Nicholson (late Sylvia), and Stuart Nicholson (Carol). Bob will be missed by his large extended family, many close family friends, and his dear pup Misty. Born in Hamilton, Bob served 5 years in the Canadian Navy prior to a distinguished career with the Ontario Provincial Police serving at Long Sault (17 years), Toronto HQ (3 years), and Burlington (8 years), and post retirement with the Commissionaires. A former volunteer firefighter (Long Sault) Bob actively served his community for many years, most recently with the Children's Aid Society of Cornwall. Just hours before his passing, Bob's bed was repositioned to his hospital room window where he was honoured by a tribute of 20 police vehicles with lights flashing to recognize his many years of service. It was pure magic. The family would like to thank the Ontario Provincial Police (Karl, Maria), Ottawa Police Service (Sean), and staff at The Ottawa Hospital for your exceptional care and support. Interment to take place in 2021 at Capital Funeral Home & Cemetery, Ottawa. (The Hamilton Spectator 19 Dec 2020)
