In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
Commendation citation: ADAM, Joseph Murray, SLt, Commendation, RCNVR, ML-053 - Awarded as per London Gazette of 26 July 1943 "For courage and good seamanship in carrying out hazardous duties."
On 14 Feb 1945, the day that a fire destroyed 5 MTBs and killed 26 sailors of the 29th MTB Flotilla at Oostende, Belgium, Lt Joseph Adam was aboard MTB-466 doing paperwork. One of his fellow officers - either Mr. Hobart (MTB-464) or Mr.McClelland (MTB-797) - convinced him to take a break and go ashore - which saved his life that day as he would have been below decks on MTB-466 when the fire occurred.
