Robert Mertyn Francis (Bob) Rainboth

Midshipman, O-60827, RCN

Born: 24 Jul 1933

Died: 24 Jul 2012, Ottawa, Ontario

RAINBOTH, Robert Mertyn (Bob) - With the love of his life Barbara (nee McVeetors) by his side, retired Deputy Fire Chief (Ottawa Fire Dept.) passed away at Madonna Nursing Home on his 79th birthday, July 24th-2012. Pre-deceased by his sister Ruth Weishar and brothers Walter and Louis Rainboth.

Loving father of Stephen (Gayle), Susan (Michael), Bob Jr. (Karen) and ever more loving grandfather of Ryan, Sydney, Ashley, Vanessa, Owen & Emma. With a 39 year career with the OFD, he put his heart into everything. His passions lay with his family first and foremost, supporting his children and grand-children in every respect. His interests led him to a life of sports from his days in the Royal Canadian Navy, to the Rideau Canoe Club (his grandchildren are now 3rd generation paddlers) to coaching hockey with the Forbes and the Golden Knights organizations. From years of supporting his children’s sporting teams to hosting countless friends at the family home, Bob’s generosity was beyond reproach. No one ever left his home hungry or thirsty!

Also well known as ‘DadBob’ to his friends at Patty’s and the Heart and Crown, he was a proud supporter of the Irish community of Ottawa, his final salute would easily be ‘Slainte!’.

Visitation: Kelly’s Funeral Home, St-Joseph blvd. Orleans (29 July - 1 to 4 PM & 6 to 9 PM) Service: Notre Dame Basilica, Sussex & St-Patrick (30 July – 10:30 AM) Reception: Heart & Crown (Mother McGintey’s / Irish Village between Clarence and Murray) Donations are welcomed to the Ottawa Fire Fighter Community Foundation (www.offcf.ca)

A sincere “Thank You” to the staff of the Madonna nursing home for their compassionate care.
