In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HERMISTON, Kathleen Donaldson (née MACKIE) - The family of Kay Hermiston is very deeply saddened to announce her passing. Kay is survived by her sons Alan (Val), Jack (Val), grandchildren Jeff (Melissa), Kirsten (Matt Sokalski), TJ (Lucy) and Jake, step-grandchildren Jodie (Mike), and Adrian (Jenn), great-grandchildren Rowan, Elliott, Archer, Lily and Bodhi and great-step-grandchildren Alexa, Lily, Ethan and Emma, and also by many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1993, her sister June and brother Gord.
Kay was born in Winnipeg to Alexander and Catherine Mackie into a loving family. When the war broke out Kay enlisted and served three years in Halifax. She met the love of her life, Jack, who turned the Navy into his career and they lived across Canada and in England. The boys were born in Victoria and Winnipeg. After retiring from the Navy, they moved to Coquitlam and both held interesting jobs. Jack and Kay then moved to Sechelt and spent many wonderful years there. They loved to travel and spent many holidays in England, the Yukon, across Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Arizona.
They were very involved with the seniors group in Sechelt. Mom loved to play crib, to knit, do puzzles and she loved her crafts. After Dad passed Mom continued with her love of travelling and did many cruises and bus trips with family and friends. Mom loved animals. In 2008, Al took Mom on a dog sledding excursion to Whitehorse. It was on her bucket list and she loved it, even though it was 30 below.
When
Mom was unable to live on her own in December 2019, she moved to Morgan
Place in South Surrey. It was a tough year into 2020 with the COVID pandemic
for Mom and her family. We are so saddened by her passing and will miss her
so much. Safe travels Mom. You will always be in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA or charity of your choice. (The Coast Reporter 22 Jan 2021)
