In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
SANDERSON, Donald Edward - Age 90, formerly of Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully on January 22, 2021 at the Veterans Memorial Building in Halifax. Don was born in Hamilton Ontario June 17, 1930. He left home at an early age to work on the Lake freighters on the Great Lakes. He then joined the Navy in 1949. He lived the Navy life travelling the world and served overseas during the Korean War and was awarded several medals for his service. Don retired from the Navy in his role as Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class in 1974. After this Don worked as a civilian for several years before fully retiring. Don learned the game of Bridge in his retirement and was an active member of Halifax Bridge World and Bridge Studio. He developed many long term friendships here and became a Life Master through the American Contract Bridge League. Don loved to bake and perfected both chocolate cake and rum cake which often appeared at special occasions. Don had a dry sense of humor and was quick to share a joke. He was a good husband, father and provider. Don is survived by his 3 sons, Michael (Karen), Bill (Lori) and John (Wendy). Brother Bruce (Joan), Selkirk Ontario. Grandchildren, Amy, Josh, Colin, Brittany, Stephanie and Ryan. Great grandchildren, Regan, Cooper, Cameron and Chloe and other family and friends. Don was predeceased by his parents William and Grace Sanderson and his wife Evangeline Marie Sanderson (Corbett) his wife of 47 years at the time of her passing in 1998. Cremation has taken place and the family will hold a private memorial at a later date. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia. The family wishes to thank the staff of 3West at the Veteran’s Memorial Building for their care, compassion and evening chats along with peanut butter toast with Don.
