Cecil Vermont Richardson

Died: 10 Jun 2006, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia

 

RICHARDSON, Cecil Vermont - 90, Allendale, passed away in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, on June 10, 2006. Born in Pleasant Point, he was a son of the late Gordon and Nellie Richardson. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Royal Canadian Navy for five years. He also served with the Canadian Coast Guard for several years until his retirement. He is survived by stepdaughter, Norma Pierce (Hupman), New Grafton, Queens Co.; sisters, Brenda, Evelyn, Elizabeth, Kathleen, and Florence; brother, Karl. He is also survived by three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Annetta Hupman; brothers, Albert and Arthur; sister, Roberta. Many will remember Cecil for his wit and the practical jokes he liked to play on his family and friends. No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Chapel, Lockeport, Rev. Dr. John Hammond officiating. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Osborne Harbour Cemetery or a charity of your choice. (Halifax Herald 12 Jun 2006)

 

Cecil's ashes were also scattered at sea but there is a memorial stone in the Osborne Cemetery at Osborne Harbour, Shelburne County.

 

Cecil was a mariner most of his life.  He served in Canadian Navy during the Second World War aboard the destroyer HMCS SIOUX R64 and it is believed he served in the Flower Class corvettes HMCS OAKVILLE K178 and HMCS KAMSACK K171. After the war he served with the Department of Transport on the "Lady Laurier" and the "Sir William Alexander" until his retirement to Allendale, Shelburne County. Cecil and his brother, Albert, were born exactly one year apart. Cecil was born 14 Nov 1915 at Pleasant Point, Shelburne County, died 10 Jun 2006, at Bridgewater, Lunenburg County.
