DENBY, Dennis James - After a period of failing health, it is with sadness we announce the death of Dennis James Denby on August 7, 2020 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Constance (Connie) (Mullin) Denby. Dennis was a resident of the Gagetown Special Care Home and formerly of Queenstown, NB. Dennis was born in Portage la Prairie, MB, July 21, 1946, the son of the late Joseph James Denby and the late Viola Rose (Asham) Denby. In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by his brother, William (Bill) Denby (Maura Leahy), Morris, MB, step-brothers Glen (Cheryl) Peterson, Morris, MB, Larry (Gloria) Peterson, Valemount, BC, sisters-in-law Carol Peterson, Radium, BC and Kathryn (Gordon) Emms, Lincoln, NB, brother-in-law Lloyd (Wendy) Mullin, Upper Gagetown, NB, several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his step-mother Annabell (Johnston) (Peterson) Denby, step-brother David Peterson and sister-in-law Kathy Denby. Dennis lost his mother Viola at the early age of 12 and his grandmother Jessie Asham provided the loving care to Dennis and his brother Bill at that difficult time. During his youth Dennis lived in the Reedy Creek, Kinosota, Amaranth, Langruth and Morris communities of Manitoba. As a young man Dennis joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served out of Halifax, later he was employed as a firefighter with National Defence at CFB Gagetown and finished his working career with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, CFB Gagetown. Dennis had a wonderful singing voice and was well known for the many Charlie Pride songs that he sang at numerous fairs, benefits and variety shows. For many years he also stood in for Santa in the greater Queenstown/Hampstead communities during the busy Christmas season. He was an avid hunter and golfer. Sincere thanks to the Gagetown Special Care Home for providing such good care to Dennis these past three years. Also, thanks to Dr. Gregory Haines and the nurses and doctors at the Oromocto Public Hospital for your compassionate care. In keeping with Dennis' wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A private graveside service with internment at St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery, Gagetown, will be held at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to St. Bridget's Catholic Church cemetery fund, the Oromocto Public Hospital foundation or consider making a blood donation in Dennis's memory to Canadian Blood Services.
