BLOTNICKY, Marjan Frank - On February 27, 2021, Benny Marjan Frank Blotnicky, loving husband and father of three children, passed away peacefully at the age of 83. Ben was born in Toronto, November 28, 1937 and came to Nova Scotia as a teenager to join the Navy and was very proud to serve on the Bonaventure. It was during that time he met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Payzant), his wife of over 61 years (whom he is survived by). They raised three children: Michael (Karen Ann), Richard (Laura) and Karen (James). He was very close to his family and enjoyed his grandchildren very much: Pamela, Robert, Christie, Mark, Gary, Lisa, Stephen, Matthew and Brenden; as well as his great-grandchildren. Ben was one of four sons, predeceased by his parents, Michael and Natalie; and his brothers, Roland and Joseph. He is survived by his oldest brother, Ted of Toronto. He is also survived by his in-laws, Deborah (Leslie) and Al (Marg) and Olga. Ben worked at Air Canada for over 26 years in Toronto and Halifax base. Ben was a Maintenance Engineer and had an amazing career keeping the skies much safer. In his earlier years he started in the Navy and then worked other jobs to support his family by driving a taxi and in printing. In his spare time, he and Elizabeth enjoyed golfing with the Grandview bunch. You would often find him searching for golf balls in the woods. He found a few! Dad was also interested in gardening. He took pride and helped out with Dream Flight. One of his many pleasures. His late years at home were special to him as he had his very special love, his Bett, by his side enjoying simple things like a good hockey game and a nice meal and family time. We would like to thank the caregivers at Holiday Inn (Northwood Hospice) who made Benny's final days as comfortable and kind as is possible. The staff showed him compassion, empathy and dignity and treated him like their own parent. A small funeral will be held March 6th by invitation only in Atlantic Funeral Homes, Dartmouth Chapel. If you wish, please plant a tree or plant in Dad's honour. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald 03 Mar 2021)
