In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MacLEOD, Douglas Wayne - passed away Monday, March 15, 2021. Born in New Glasgow on July 17, 1945, he was the son of the late Sidney and Ruth (nee Chisholm) MacLeod.
Douglas was a farm raised boy that started his working career in the Navy. His work life took him in many directions including a milk truck delivery driver with the Scotsburn Dairy, a maintenance worker at the Stellarton Memorial Rink, and commercial lobster (and other) fisherman on the Northumberland Strait.
In his retirement, Douglas enjoyed sitting and talking with great neighbours in the Red Row and walking his many routes through the town of Stellarton. He was a dedicated member of the Legion Branch #28 for over 45 years. He cherished his role of being a grandfather to his grandchildren often serving as taxi driver for their many activities as well as being their #1 cheerleader during their events. Douglas enjoyed following and talking sports, with family and friends, especially following his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays.
Douglas is survived by his children Steven (Jolene) MacLeod, Stellarton and Brian MacLeod, Halifax; grandchildren Chloe (Callum Jordan) MacLeod and Marcus (Jessica MacDonald) MacLeod, Stellarton; Michael Perry, Samantha (Zack Graham) Perry, Nicolas Perry and Shelley Perry, Halifax; great granddaughter Sadie Graham, Halifax; and beloved cat Squeaker. He is also survived by siblings, Jimmy (Nancy) MacLeod, Robert (Lynn) MacLeod both of River John, Lynda (Brian) Ellis, Toronto; Geoffrey (Eileen) MacLeod, Truro; Melissa MacConnell, Millsville; Elizabeth (Ed) MacLellan, Halifax; sister-in-law Catherine (David) MacKenzie, Wilmot; sister-in-law Muriel MacDonald, Pictou and many nieces and nephews. Douglas was predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret (nee MacDonald), brother John “Jackie” MacLeod and sister-in-law Audrey MacLeod, Welsford; brother-in-law David MacConnell, Millsville; brother-in-law Andrew MacDonald, Pictou; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Herbert (Chezza) MacDonald, Greenwood; and daughter-in-law Natalie Perry, Halifax.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses for looking after “Grampie”, as he was affectionately called by the staff on the 4th floor of the Aberdeen Hospital, his entire Palliative Care Team, and the wonderful VON nurses that provided homecare.
As per his wishes, no funeral service will be held. A graveside burial service will be held at a future date at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stellarton Legion Branch #28, local SPCA or charity of your choice. (H.W. Angus & H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home)
