McEACHERN, James - It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of James (Jim) McEachern in his 96th year, at Milton District Hospital on April 19, 2021. He was the cherished and devoted husband to Gladys for 72 years and the loving father of Karen (Bob), Pauline (Frank), Fred (Laura) and Lorraine (Jim), grandfather to Jeff (Brittany), Terri (Pete), Lauren (Bob), Chad (Jackie), Chris, Mitchell (Megan), Graham (Melony) and great-grandfather to Atticus, Lincoln, Charles, Lavinia and Zoe. Brother to Donald (Beverly), Glen and predeceased by his sister, Audrey. Jim was a life-long Milton resident—he was born at his grandmother and grandfather Downs' house at the corner of Charles and Lydia Streets on December 1, 1925. At a young age, Jim began working at P.L. Robertson, where he retired in 1989 as a Tool Room Supervisor. His time at P .L.'s, as he called it, was interrupted by WWII. Jim, an extremely proud Canadian, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy Voluntary Reserve in 1943. He shipped out to England, after completing basic training at HMCS York in Toronto. He eventually became an Aircraft Mechanic assigned to 803 Squadron—Fleet Air Arm. When the war in Europe ended, he signed on to continue his service with the Navy in the war in the Pacific. However, while mid-ocean on the way back to Canada, the war in the Pacific ended. Jim returned home to Milton and resumed his career with P.L.'s. Jim was a man of many talents--an avid photographer, music lover and a Master Woodworker. Anything to do with the great outdoors was his passion—camping, birdwatching and wildflowers. He was a dedicated father and family man. Jim and Gladys were world travellers and saw much of Canada, the U.S.A. and Europe. He was also Past Master of St. Clair Lodge 132 Milton and proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 136. Year after year, he attended Remembrance Day Parades up until Covid-19 restrictions. A private family service was conducted at McKersie-Kocher Funeral Home on Saturday, April 24 at 2 p.m. The funeral service was live streamed and can be watched again on the link provided on the website. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Milton Legion Branch 136 can be made by cheque mailed directly to 21 Charles Street, Milton L9T 2G5, St. Paul's United Church or Sleeping Children Around the World would be appreciated. Thank you to the Halton EMS paramedics, Dr. Gray, Dr. Sadera, Dr. Wong and the Nursing Staff at Milton District Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when conditions permit.
