In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MacLAUGHLAN, Harold Robert Grant - Grant served in HMCS CAPE BRETON from when she was commissioned in Quebec City, till the end of the war. He recalls when they sailed out of Quebec, they had no guns mounted on the ship, which were fitted after arrival in Halifax, so they sailed with guns made out of plywood on the deck to fool the U-boats into thinking she was armed. Prior to CAPE BRETON, Grant served in HMCS CHICOUTIMI. When the CHICOUTIMI was in New York, the locals couldn’t say her name, and called her the “Chuck.it.to.me”.
Grant's brother John S. MacLauchlan also served in the RCNVR. His two sisters Margaret MacLauchlan and Elizabeth MacLauchlan served in the WRCNS
