Robert Darby graduated from high school with an electrical diploma in June 1940 and and he was itching to join his older brother in the navy. Robert joined the RCNVR serving in Halifax and Victoria refitting the electrical systems on ships when they were in port. After the war he became a policeman in the Metro Toronto Police Department, retiring as Staff Sargeant.
Robert's brother Ronald Darby served in the RCNVR during the Second World War and in the RCN post war.
