In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
DUGUID, Harry Chalmers - On June 25, 2013, Harry Duguid of Edmonton passed away, at the University of Alberta Hospital, at the age of 89 years, after a short battle with leukemia.
Harry was born and raised in Calgary, and in 1942 he signed up with the Royal Canadian Navy and went off to serve his country. He spent the majority of his service as a signalman while running escorts throughout the Atlantic. After returning from the service he worked for General Electric, where he met his future wife Ruth Cowie. Harry played football with the Calgary Stampeders for a year before attending the University of Alberta where he took Engineering, and played football for the Golden Bears. After graduating from University, Harry went on to have a successful career as a Civil Engineer with the Alberta Department of Highways, and retired in 1980. Harry then went on to spend many years volunteering at the Northgate Lions Senior centre. His hobbies consisted of sketching, oil painting, stain glass work, playing badminton, cross country skiing, camping, fishing and hunting. He very much enjoyed the connection with family and friends. He will be missed by many.
Harry is survived by his sister, Mary (Robert) Cuthiell, daughter, Carol Duguid and son, Barry (Marilyn). Harry will also be missed by his grandchildren, Robin, Richard, Gregory (Audrey), Julia and Amanda; and great- grandchildren, Riley, Zachary and Emma.
