In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
RICKARD, James Allan (Jim) - It is with great sadness that the family of James Allan "Jim" Rickard announce his passing in the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the age of 91 years. Jim was born in Port Arthur on August 11, 1917 and was a lifetime resident. Jim served his country during WWII on HMCS TRENTONIAN. He was a member of the Thunder Bay Naval Association and Port Arthur Branch #5 of the Royal Canadian Legion. He worked for many years with Richardson Grain Elevators. Jim truly enjoyed spending time and fixing what needs to be fixed at the family summer cottage at Trout Lake as well as playing crib, shuffleboard and darts with friends at the Legion. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his children Bob (Rene) Rickard of Nanaimo, B.C., Joan Sawicki of Nanaimo, B.C. and Donna Joy Rickard, grandchildren: Dean (Robin) Rickard, Sherry (Vinny) Martinez, Marlis Sawicki and Aaron (Paula) Sawicki, 6 great grandchildren, sisters Clara "Sis" McCartney and Mary Beaucage as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Esther, brother John and his parents George and Giles Rickard. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel , 21 North Court Street with Pastor Ross Tomkins presiding. The Thunder Bay Naval Association and Port Arthur Branch #5, Royal Canadian Legion will hold their Service Of Remembrance in conjunction with the funeral service. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorials to the Thunder Bay Naval Association or the the Building Fund of Port Arthur Branch #5.
James' brother John Aaron Rickard also served in the RCNVR during the Second World War.
