In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HATT, Keith Wendell - Age 78 of Waterville, NS passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at home. Born in Middleton, NS he was a son of the late Trueman and Kathleen (Keddy) Hatt.
After serving in the Navy for 8 years, Keith trained for the ministry at New Brunswick Bible Institute, and then re-opened a little church in Culloden, Digby County. Even after he moved to the Valley and became a correctional officer, he and Valerie continued to keep the people in Digby close to their hearts and would return to visit and continue to minister to the people in meaningful ways for many years following.
Camping, gardening, hunting, fishing and trapping, as well as taking long drives to visit loved ones or to take advantage of a good bargain were activities that gave Keith many interesting stories to tell and kept him active well into his retirement years.
Keith was at his best when he was aware of a need. He was generous, empathetic and helpful, and left a legacy in his own quiet way to be carried on by his wife of 59 years, Valerie (Dexter); daughter, Penny-Lee Davidson, Black Rock; sons, Kenny (Esther) Hatt, Harmony and Matthew (Lisa) Hatt, Summerville, NB; grandchildren, Cheryl, Marilee, Tamara, Truman, Ira, Isaac, Sam, Simon, Brody, Janelle, Aleah and Grace; great-grandchildren, Esther, Corbin and Jacob Riley “JR”; sisters, Carolyn (Gerry) Barron, Greenwood Square; Mary (Cyril) Collins, Melvern Square; Ruth (Bryan) Brooks, Nictaux; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Keith knew he wasn’t perfect, but also that he was forgiven because of Jesus and his substitutionary death on the cross and would be welcomed with open arms and unconditional love when his life on this earth was complete. He looked forward to this more and more as his strength failed and found him unable to do the things he loved. Right up till the end, he was praying for us all. He left a legacy for us to continue in his own quiet way. May the Lord find us faithful. We will miss you!
Besides his parents, Keith was predeceased by his son, Teddy; and brothers, Gary, David and Ashley.
A funeral service, by invitation only, will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448 with Pastor Philip Steeves officiating. For those unable to attend in person, a live webcast of the service will be available for viewing on the funeral home website at 1:55 p.m. ADT by selecting the “Live Stream” option at the top of the home page. Private family burial will take place in the North Kingston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to The War Amps.
