In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
JEFFERIES, Robert Charles, BASc, PEng - The family of Robert Charles (Bob) Jefferies is sad to announce his passing on June 6, 2021, in his 97th year. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Ann Louise and her husband John Speller, and his son William and his wife Elizabeth Porter-Jefferies. Proud grandfather of Mark, Jeffrey, Matthew, Emma and Rachel. Dear friend of Lois Lowden-Lunde, Seattle, WA. Bob was born in 1924 to Clifford and Ellen Jefferies (nee Beatty) in Brantford, Ontario. A graduate of Jarvis Collegiate, he volunteered for the RCAF in 1943 and served as flying instructor in the Commonwealth Air Training Plan. He transferred to the Royal Navy, joining 803rd squadron to fly the Seafire Mk III and XV, later assigned to RCN aircraft carrier HMCS Warrior. After the war, Bob attended University of Toronto, graduating in 1950 with an electrical engineering degree. He worked with Toronto Hydro until his retirement in 1988. He was an active participant in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, including a term as Toronto chapter chair. Bob married Mary Rose in 1948 and they had 2 children. They enjoyed family trips to their Georgian Bay cottage, which Bob and his father had built, and travelling together. When Mary succumbed to cancer in 1991, Bob cared for her so she could remain at home. Bob was a faithful member of Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, serving as an usher and a deacon. He made several trips as a volunteer with Canadian Baptist Ministries to Bolivia and Brazil. In his later years, he travelled extensively and visited every continent except Antarctica. The family thank the staff of Briton House Retirement Centre for their kindness and care. A memorial service will be held at a later date. If desired, donations may be made to Yorkminster Park Baptist Church or a charity of your choice. (The Toronto Star 12 Jun 2021)
