In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
LOWENS, Don - With sadness but gratitude for a long, dignified life, the family of Don Lowens shares news of his passing in his 97th year. Don is survived by the love of his life, Lillian (Humphries), and they were married for over 71 years. Don was the cherished father of Katherine (Gord), Kim (Stuart) and Laurie (Jeff), much loved grandfather of Tamara (Chris), Matthew (Meredith), Darcy (Kristin) and Duncan (Christine). Don was great-grandfather to Donald Wales Mitchell, whom Don was thrilled to get to spend time with over the past 6 weeks while living with Laurie and Jeff. Dear brother of Ken Lowens (Marie) of London, ON. Don was a proud veteran of the Canadian Navy, having served in WWII, and the family is grateful to the Department of Veteran Affairs for their wonderful support of Don and all veterans. Don was also President/ Owner of MacKinnon-Moncur Printers and Lithographers in Toronto until his retirement in 1986. Don and Lillian were residents of Cliffcrest Drive in Scarborough for 50 years, and they cherished their many, many friends in the neighbourhood and their beloved square dance group. Don enjoyed and excelled at the game of bridge, and was a member of the Cliffcrest Bridge Club for over 20 years. Most of all, Don loved family time at his cottages on Lake Simcoe and later on Mountain Lake in Minden. Don was loved by his many friends, nieces and nephews for his grace, patience, intellect and caring. A celebration of Don's life will be held in July at Mount Lawn Funeral Home, Whitby, or via Zoom.
