John James MacNeil

Died: 23 May 1939, Birmingham, Michigan

 

MacNEIL, John James, Dr. - 73, Birmingham, Mich., died at home May 23. Born in New Waterford, he attended St. Francis Xavier University and received his MD from King's College, Cambridge, University of London, England, in 1942. He served as a Surgeon Lieutenant Commander, during the Second World War. Dr. MacNeil was certified in plastic and reconstructice surgery and completed a fellowship in orthopedic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1963. He had maintained a private practice in orthopedics in Birmingham for the last 25 years. He was M.R.C.S. (England) and F.R.C.S. - orthopedics (Canada). He was a member of American Medical Association and Oakland Medical Association. He is survived by three daughters, Pamela (Mrs. Sean Silverman), San Francisco; Monica (Mrs. Jaques Grenier), Tel Aviv; Patricia MacNeil, Ottawa; a son, Ian MacNeil, Oshawa; a sister, Kaye (Mrs. George White), Toronto. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Alice McQuigan; three sisters, Mary (Mrs. James Dunsworth), Sadie (Mrs. E. A. Brasset), Siss MacNeil. Funeral mass was held in Holy Name Church, Birmingham. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill, Ont. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald, Tuesday 30 May 1989 / Researched by George Newbury)
