In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
CUMMING, James Malcolm - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jim who lived a wonderful full life and passed away at the age of 91. Born in Calgary, raised in Edmonton, Dad had a long and distinguished navy career in the RCN, retiring in 1985 in the rank of Commodore. Predeceased by his wife of 63 years, April Barbara in 2015, and his sister and brother-in-law Bette and Bob Booth from North Vancouver, and brother-in-law Michael Harper from Herefordshire UK. Upon retirement Jim and April settled on a farm in North Saanich, where they started breeding Golden Retrievers and Dad was active at his church and with various charities. Survived by his two children, Jeff (Susan), Janice (Dan), his four grandchildren Michael (Rachael), Heather, Philip (Nadine), Patrick (Salena), and his four great-grandchildren Emily, Jamie, Madelyn and Rémi. April had dementia in her later years, and sadly our father also later developed dementia as well. He was lovingly cared for by his ladyfriend Joanne Thring in Sidney for two years until he went into Veterans Memorial Lodge at Broadmead this winter. The family is so grateful to all the staff at Broadmead Lodge, especially in Ward B3 for all of their loving care and compassion during Dad's time there. There will be a private family graveside service with a memorial service and celebration of life to be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, North Saanich at a later date.
