In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
SCHMIDT, Samuel - It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and friend, Sam, on July 6, 2021. He is predeceased by his wife Barb and survived by his daughters Sue (Mike) and Colleen (Rob); his six grandchildren Amanda (Braden), Kevin, Jen, Ryan, Kathryn and Kelsey; one great-grandson Jace; sister Kathy; sister-in-law Kay (Norm), and numerous nieces and nephews. Sam was born in Clark's Crossing, Saskatchewan. As a teenager, he moved to Vanderhoof, BC to help out on his grandparent's farm. In his mid-20's he joined the navy and sailed off on an adventure. Shortly after he found the best catch in the sea, his wife Barb. They built their life together in Victoria where they raised their two daughters and settled into retirement. Sam was known as a gentle and patient man who loved his crossword puzzles, watching a good hockey game and the original Star Trek series (beam me up Scottie), reading the daily paper, historical novels, reviving furniture through upholstery, and playing a good game of Rack-O. He will be lovingly missed and his full 90 years on earth will be remembered with fondness and heart-felt memories. Sam, may you finally be reunited with your soulmate and love, Barb. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 23, 2021 in the chapel at First Memorial in Royal Oak, Victoria, B.C. Internment will follow at the Royal Oak Burial Park with a reception at the Fireside Grill at 1:00 pm. (Victoria Times Colonist 16 Jul 2021)
