McKELVIE, William  David (Bill) - It is with great sadness that the family of William (Bill) David Clinton McKelvie, aged 83, of Halifax Nova Scotia, announces his passing on June 2, 2021 at the Victoria General Hospital.

Born July 1, 1937, in Montreal, Bill was the son of the late James and Annie McKelvie.

Bill served in the Royal Canadian Navy for over 26 years on many ships and was also with the HS50 Helicopter Squadron in Shearwater. This allowed him to travel and see much of the world. Bill also served in the Korean War in 1953.

In his younger days , Bill enjoyed time with family and friends camping and fishing, sometimes with a harmonica or guitar around a campfire. He has always loved the outdoors and been a lover of animals and supporter of many animal causes.

In recent years, Bill was happiest sitting in the sun with a good book in hand or enjoying visits from his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill was very proud of "his" 7 girls' accomplishments.

He will always be remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humor. And, if you were lucky enough to know him well, you likely had a nickname.

Bill is survived by his wife Prema; children, Heather (Leo) Cruickshanks and Prema (Wayne) Cooper; "like-a-son", Fred (Wendy) Coulson and daughters; grandchildren, Sarah (Mark) Cruickshanks and Vanessa (Brandon) Cooper; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Anna and Emily; brother Neil (Lorna); sister, Ann; and many nieces and nephews.

Due to covid, there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SPCA, Hope For Wildlife or charity of choice.

Special thanks to EHS paramedics, doctors and nurses and QEII Emerg and 3A at the ICU at the VG as well as family Dr. Lywood. (Cole Harbour Funeral Home)
