In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
ATKINS, Ambrose Augustine - Peacefully at home on June 6, 2021 at 87 years of age. Devoted husband of Edna for 63 years. Loving and cherished father of Jim (Franca), Lisa (Tom), Dave (Heather), Leigh (Paddy), and Laura. Proud and doting grandfather to Andrew (Amber), Travis (Becky), Brady (Megan), Julie (Mark), Heather, Maggie, Vanessa, Danny (Brianna), Marco and Roberto. Caring brother of Kay (Gerry), Marjorie (James), Ronnie (Burnese) and brother-in-law of Sid, Pat and Norma. Predeceased by his parents, Jimmy and Catherine; and siblings Simon, Butch, and Florence. Always ready with a quick smile, corny joke, and kind words, he will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and friends. Born and raised in Charlottetown, PEI, Ambrose joined the Communication Research branch of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) in 1952. He retired from the RCN in 1976 having achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He then worked at the Communication Security Establishment (CSE) in Ottawa from 1976-1995. In 1973, Ambrose was invested into the Order of Military Merit for exemplary service to Canada. A longtime parishioner at St Patrick Basilica, Ambrose was active in roles such as pro-life representative, choir member, and offertory collector. He also held longtime memberships with the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Old-Timers Associations of the Supplementary Radio System and CSE. A “Spud Islander” to the end, Ambrose had a passion for all things related to Prince Edward Island and was happiest when visiting “home”. He dearly loved his family, his faith, fishing, and hockey, not necessarily in that order. Heartfelt thanks to Dr Shamim Taherzadeh whose compassionate care for Ambrose in the last months of his life ensured that this humble and simple man could stay at his home with his family until God took him unto Himself. Thanks also to the palliative care team of PSWs and nurses for their outstanding dedication, and a special thank you to Pamela, whose loving care of Dad brought him much peace and joy. Arrangements in care of the Kelly Funeral Home Walkley Chapel, 1255 Walkley Road, Ottawa, K1V 6P9. Due to current restrictions, visitations will take place by invitation only. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at St. Patrick Basilica, 220 Kent Street, Ottawa. In Memoriam donations to the Campaign Life Coalition, or a charity of your choice are appreciated by the family. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald 12 Jun 2021)
