In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
CALVERT, Sydney Charles (Syd) - a fiercely proud Canadian, served in WWII with the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a founding member and former President of the Brant Naval Club. After retiring as VP of a large pharmaceutical company, Syd took up his second passion, playing Banjo, and was involved with the Jazz community in Toronto. Syd was the leader of the Excelsior Jazz Band and was well-respected in the Toronto jazz community. He was a gentleman's gentleman. Syd is survived by the love of his life, Margot, his daughters Nora Pasley and Diane Davies, grandchildren Joshua Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Jessica Pasley, Zacariah Pasley, Laurie Davies, Doug Davies (deceased) Michelle Dykstra, Stephen Davies and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his loving sister-in-law, Jane Knowling, and her partner, Walt Neary, and his beloved nephew, Timothy Knowling. Syd touched the lives of so many people and he will be missed by all. Syd will certainly "...be in that number When The Saints Come Marching In." Many thanks to the staff and Doctors at Mt. Sinai and Princess Margaret Hospitals. A celebration of life will be at a later date. (The Toronto Star 08 Sep 2021)
