STANGER, Edgar Thorne Peter - It is with heavy hearts the family of Edgar Thorne "Peter" Stanger, loving husband of the late Helen (Edgar) Stanger, announces his passing at the Centre Hospitalier du Comte de Huntingdon on Wednesday, December 20, 2017. Born in Montreal, QC on September 19, 1923 he was a son of the late Edward A. and Audrey (Thorne) Stanger. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy in World War II as a decorated Lieutenant and Navigational Specialist. Before retirement Peter was the President of Canadian Bronze Powder (Canbro) Valleyfield , QC. Peter was an accomplished figure skater and was founder of the Valleyfield Skating Club some 50 years ago, as well as a founder of the Club Nautique de Valleyfield where he spent his summers on his sailboat. Peter will be greatly missed by his children: Mona (Ann) (Robert Pratt) of Anacortes, WA, USA, Wendy (Daryl Prefontaine) of Toronto, ON; and Cheryl (Scott Barr) of Franklin Centre, QC; siblings: Joan Lewis of Portland, ME, David Stanger of Barrie, ON, and Michael Stanger of Victoria, BC; grandchildren: Melissa, Brian, Alicia, Richard, Jory, Gibson, Elise, Sam and Olivia; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Heather (three months), parents, wife and grandson Jory. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). A Memorial Service will happen at a later date both in Saint John and Franklin Ctr QC. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Peter may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice. (Montreal Gazette 23 Dec 2017)
