WERBIN, Ruth (née CHARLETON) - Wren WRCNS, Retired National Library of Canada. Peacefully at Barrhaven Manor. Predeceased by three older brothers Godfrey, John, and Peter; and by Tony, her husband of 51 years (2001). Remembered by her son Doug (Joan), Doug's son Matt and an extended family including James (Jing), Jennifer, Justin, Victoria, Bianca and Charlotte, her goddaughter Margaret, and relatives across Canada and in California. Raised in Winnipeg's North End, daughter of Peter (Pete the Cop) Charleton and Mary Charleton (née Hill). Raised with caring assistance and influence from Agnes Halliday. A strict but loving upbringing shaped her life. Ruth joined the WRCNS (the Wrens) in 1942 and discharged in 1946. Served in Esquimalt, Halifax, and St. John's. After the war, she served in various positions with the WREN Association, including President. For a few years after the war, employed by Citizenship and Immigration where she met Tony, her future husband. Moved to Ottawa in the sixties where she joined the National Library and remained there until retirement. She truly enjoyed her work and her colleagues. Ruth was a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church in Winnipeg, and later a member of St. Mark's Anglican Church in Ottawa for 53 years. Her last years were at the Barrhaven Manor where she made friends with residents and staff. Much thanks is given to the staff. Veterans Affairs is also thanked for their support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mark's Anglican Church or Parkinson Society Canada. Visitation at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Avenue, (at Byron) on Thursday October 13 (2 to 4 and 7 to 9).
