In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
BROWN, Robert D. - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather. On October 7, 2021, Bob slipped his earthly anchor and sailed on the morning tide. He was predeceased by his wife Vivian Brown (née Lock), sister Norma Parker, brother-in-law Noel Parker and brother Howard Brown. He leaves behind to mourn his daughter Valerie Holmes (Robert), his granddaughters Kimberly Murphy (Myles) and Laura Holmes, his beloved great grandson James Robert Murphy, and many other relatives and friends.
Bob was born on May 1, 1925, in Vancouver, and lived most of his life there. He served in World War II on a Corvette in the North Atlantic. After the War, he finished his degree at UBC and then taught High School for a few years in Prince George. There he met the love of his life, Vivian, with whom he was married for 62 years. He lived a full life, as a loving son, World War II navy veteran, professional accountant (FCGA), and teacher in both public schools and later at Vancouver Community College-Langara campus. He was a volunteer treasurer for numerous organizations. After retirement from Langara, he and Vivian lived for many wonderful years on Mayne Island, followed by happy years in Sidney by the Sea.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Norgarden for helping to make Bob's last years happy ones, the staff at Sidney All Care for their support, and the doctors, nurses and support workers of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital's Palliative Care Unit for their caring and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation would be most appreciated by the family. (The Victoria Times Colonist 15 Oct 2021)
