In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
McDOW, Edward Alexander (Ted) - age 97 - Halifax, formerly of Dartmouth, died at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial on November 9th, 2021. He was the son of the late Henry and Nellie McDow, Dartmouth.
He lived on the Waverley Road in Dartmouth for close to 60 years; then moved in with his daughter Sandra Beazley for a year and a half in Musquodoboit Harbour, prior to moving to Camp Hill Veterans Memorial.
Ted served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War, later working for the Community Store, and then the Royal Bank on Portland Street, where he retired in 1983 to enjoy his many years of retirement.
Ted was a life member of Royal Canadian Legion, Somme Branch #31 Dartmouth.
He is survived by daughters, Sandra Beazley, Judy (Kenneth) Humphrey, Linda (David) Murray, Bonnie (Michael) LaQuant; grandchildren, Kirk (Andrea) Beazley, Chad (Erin) Murray, Lisa (Matt) Murray Robinson, Kyden, Shaun (Lindsay) LaQuant, Troy LaQuant, Brenda Humphrey, Amanda Humphrey, Jennifer Humphrey, and Shannon Humphrey; great grandchildren, Alyssa, James, Ryan; Brad, Brent, Julian, Mathew, Shyanne, Abigail, Cohen, Samantha, Sarah and Trevor.
He fondly talked about great grandson Kyden Robinson, who in his younger years always referred to him as “the grandfather”.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary McDow; son-in-law Rick Beazley in 2020; sisters, Ruby Robar, Christina Austin; niece, Janet Barrs.
Ted was a good father, and his children will remember him fondly.
In the early years there were many trips to Cape Breton, which were always a trying affair with his kids. If asked, he could recall them first saying they all wanted a window seat, then “she is touching me, get on your own side,” and always asking “how far is it now?”, this was only after about 25 miles.
He was a happy man who took life as it was, and did not like unnecessary conflict.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Camp Hill Veterans Memorial (4th Floor Westwood), for the care they gave our father, especially Dorothy and Anthony for all their help.
Ted enjoyed his chats with Susan before she left for the day, the many DVD’s and books she brought him, and Linda, who made his oatmeal just right in the mornings.
Ted’s family love him, will miss him, and wish him peace in the next step of his journey.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held 12 PM Saturday November 20th, 2021 in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Reverend Joan Griffin, (First United Church, Musquodoboit Harbour) will officiate. Donations in memory may be made Fourth Floor Westwood, Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building.
Due to Covid 19 Restrictions, all who attend the graveside service must show proof of double vaccination and government identification. Face masks must be worn at all times.
