Born: 25 Apr 1925, Yorkshire, England

Died: 13 Apr 2004

NACCARATO, Elizabeth (Betty) (née FERGUSON) - Elizabeth was born in Yorkshire, England on April 25, 1925 to ex-Sgt. Major Joseph Ferguson and his wife, Mary (nee) Harris. She was their third and last child, and second daughter. The family emigrated to Central Alberta in June of 1930. The family moved to Edmonton in 1934, and Betty spent her youth in this city. When World War II erupted, Betty joined the "Wrens", the women's section of the Canadian Navy, where she met and married her husband, fellow-sailor and stoker on a convoy, Joseph Naccarato. After Joe's retirement as a stationery engineer, the couple moved out to Lac La Nonne where they built a retirement home. Betty lived there until Joe's death, when she moved permanently in to Barrhead. She was a very active volunteer, tutoring for the Blue Heron Society, singing in the United Church and Community Senior Choirs, working for the hospital auxiliary and the library, as well as enjoying her large family. In late March of 2004, Betty was obliged by her doctors and family to leave her home in Barrhead and move to St. Michael's Manor in Spruce Grove. She died not long after at the Stony Plain Hospital. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, and her husband's entire family. She is survived by: Kate Brook, sister, of Edmonton; John Ferguson, brother, Vancouver Island, Bettiann (Marvin) Wince of Two Hills, their children and grandchildren; Linda Mae Naccarato, and her daughter Dr. Jen-Mai Wong, and son Carter; Francis (Beverley). There were no published announcements of her death, no ceremonies. There is no gravesite, as her ashes were scattered. For her many friends this is the memorial of her life and death. Her sister misses their long, long weekly phone conversations. "Until we meet again." (The Edmonton Journal 13 Apr 2005)
