In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MacDONALD, John Andrew (Jack) - Jack died at the age of 95, on Thursday, October 28, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was a proud Calgarian who served in WWII, first in the Air Force and then the Navy. He worked in northern outposts for the Hudson's Bay Company before joining Kraft Foods, where he enjoyed a 38-year career. Jack married Aileen in 1949, after a fateful meeting in an emergency room where she worked as a nurse. They lived in Regina, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Montreal and then returned to Calgary in retirement before relocating to High River. His retirement years were spent golfing, supporting the Legion with the Poppy Campaign, caring for a succession of dogs, researching his Scottish and Irish roots and enjoying his grand and great-grandchildren. Jack is survived by his wife of 72 years, Aileen; children; Jane (Craig Russell), Gail (John Rhind), David (Colleen); his grandchildren, Caileigh (Philip Wortman), Cameron, and Evan and his great-grandchildren Angus, Oliver and Sophie. The family would like to express their gratitude for the outstanding care provided to Jack at Revera Evergreen in the Memory Care unit: especially his longtime aide Lucita, homecare nurse Sade, and Dr Das, as well as all the residence staff who showed great compassion to the family. Memorial donations may be made to Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue or the Legion Poppy Campaign. As Jack loved his daily scotch, please raise a glass to salute this fine gentleman. Slainte! A private family Graveside Service will take place at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. (The Calgary Herald 13 Nov 2021)
