In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HOLMBERG, Walter Herman - It is with saddened hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Walter (Wally) on Monday, November 8, 2021 in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 96 years. A proud native Calgarian, he lived most of his life in the community of Inglewood. His parents were Ernest C. Holmberg and Mae Palmer. A veteran of W.W. II, Walter was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy. He served on the frigate WENTWORTH with active duties in the Atlantic and anti-submarine duties in the Caribbean. After the war he met Florence (Tiny) Lewis-McCleary and they married on October 10, 1947. Together they had five children: Barrie (Patricia), Gary, Tracy Roth (Tim), Connie Sharp (Charlie) and Lloyd (Marianne). They were also blessed with eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He worked for forty-seven years at the Calgary Brewery and Malting Co. Ltd. Walter and Tiny lived a life in loyal service to others. Together they worked Saturday Night Bingos for the Inglewood Community Association where Walter called bingo for more than twenty-five years. He spent many years serving on the Board of Directors for the Inglewood Credit Union. Wally and Tiny loved folk music. They were season pass holders (#1 and #2) for the Calgary Folk Club for about forty-five years. He was a fixture, front and center, right up until the week before he passed. His love for Bingo found him with his daughter, Connie, also a week before his passing.
