In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MORELAND, Barry Robert - passed away suddenly September 10, 2008 at the age of 72. Barry will be dearly missed by his wife of fifty-two years Isabella Moreland; four children Graham Moreland (Karen), Vicki Boothman (Andy) of Calgary, Bill Moreland of Vancouver and Brian Moreland (Linda) of Calgary; six grandchildren Lindsay Moreland, Kathleen Boothman, Kayle Moreland, Harry Boothman, Ben Moreland and Roberta Moreland; his father William F. Moreland; the family cat Bailey; and many friends. Barry was predeceased by his mother Mim Moreland in 2001. Barry was born in Portreeve, Saskatchewan and as a result of wartime challenges was raised by his grandparents. He was reunited with his parents at age fourteen and moved to Calgary where he joined Sea Cadets and developed his lifelong interest in the Navy. Two years later Barry joined the Navy where he served for five years as an Armour's Mate and a Diver. He has maintained his connection to the Navy by supporting the Navy Veterans and being active in the Corvette Club. While in Victoria, Barry met and fell in love with Isabella. They married in 1956 and moved to Calgary where they have resided since. Barry worked diligently as a manufacturer's rep for the automotive aftermarket companies, establishing his own company in 1979. Barry has been a dedicated Rotarian since 1974 in both the Calgary East and the Chinook Clubs. He is a Past President of the Calgary Chinook Club. Barry was an avid golfer and was proud of the many amateur tournaments he won. Barry was also a solid supporter of the Calgary Stampeders and was a proud member of their Alumni Association. Barry also enjoyed the arts, watching and encouraging his daughter's dancing and supporting those organizations. He was a passionate man who would focus his energy and drive into whatever task was at hand. He was animated, honest and dependable and will be lovingly remembered by his family and many friends. In honouring Barry's request, no Memorial Service will be held. If friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Veterans' Food Bank, c/o Calgary Poppy Fund, No. 1, 4539 - 6 Street N.E., Calgary, Alberta T2E 3Z6. Cremation and arrangements are in care of Pierson's Funeral Home (Calgary Herald 12 Sep 2008)
