In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
SICZKAR, Harry - 96 years passed away peacefully on Monday, November 29, 2021, in the TBRHSC. Harry was born August 3, 1925, in Port Arthur to parents Peter and Katy Siczkar. As a young man he played trumpet in high school, Port Arthur Technical Institute and soon after mastered the art of playing the accordion. During the war years (WWII) he enlisted into the Royal Canadian Navy and served in Cornwallis, NS. He played the trumpet E-Flat Alto in the Naval Band for the troops heading overseas. During the 50s, 60s and 70s he was very busy almost every Friday and Saturday night. He was asked to play the music for weddings, anniversaries, and dances on a regular basis. He also served as the secretary of the Musician Union here in Thunder Bay for 25 years. Harry was a member of the Naval Association until his passing. He was a lifetime member of the Slovak Legion #129. Harry had a long career as Parts Manager with Cummins Eastern Canada. Harry's love for music was a lifetime passion, until the age of 85 he was playing the accordion in the “Happy Elder's” Band in the Thunder Bay Seniors Homes Circuit. Harry met and married Blanche (nee Poulin) and raised 3 children until her passing in 1993. Harry met Lila and they were married in 2001 and spent the last 20 years travelling to Minnesota, Las Vegas, and Western Canada. Harry was a family man with a gentle heart, a great provider and life teacher. He loved to tell stories and jokes. Harry was able to “fix” everything from wood to electrical appliances. He was fond of many animals, having many beloved pets over the years. Fishing was a pastime that he thoroughly enjoyed. Harry will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lila, his sons David (Mimma) and Doug, his daughter Denise (Scott) Cassell, his grandsons Cody Siczkar and Daylin (Lisa) Gustafson, his great granddaughter Vayda Gustafson, his stepchildren Debbie (Roy) Linkletter and Vicky Love as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, in the Chapel of Sargent and Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street with Rev. Victor DeGagne officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association or a Charity of your choice. (Thunder Bay Chronicle Journal 04 Dec 2021)
