They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
MACLAREN, David James., Lt, RCNVR, died - 24 Jun 1945, HMCS MIDLAND - Son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bruce MacLaren of Toronto.
Lieut. David James MacLaren, 23, Heathdale Rd., was drowned yesterday at Sydney, N.S., when a whaler he was sailing with two other men capsized. Harbor craft from the shore establishment, H.M.C.S. Protector, picked up the three men, but efforts to revive MacLaren were unsuccessful. Lieut. MacLaren enlisted in October 1941, and following a course at King's College, N.S. served three years as first lieutenant aboard HMCS MIDLAND, which is now being decommissioned. A brother, Ian, was lost when HMCS VALLEYFIELD went down off Newfoundland in 1944. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth MacLaren, Heathdale Rd. and one brother, Kenneth, at home.
He is buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto, ON.
