Reynold Joseph (Rennie) Jeannotte of St. Walburg was the son of Aimé Edward and stepson of Catherine Jeannotte of St. Walburg. Rennie was born at Cut Knife, educated at St. Walburg, and was working as a Singer sewing machine salesman when he his brother Paul enlisted in the Navy on May 27, 1940 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He had another brother Aimé Jr. who was with the R.C.A.F. Jeanotte was mentioned in despatches posthumously October 03, 1944.  He is buried in the Weston Mill Cemetery, Plymouth, Devon, UK.

 

Tel Jeannotte died at the Royal Naval Hospital Plymouth, England, from wounds he received on HMCS QU'APPELLE during action against German naval forces off France. HMCS QU'APPELLE participated in operation "Dredger" against German escort vessels at the U-boat meeting points off Brest and southward. During the night of 5/6 Jul the 12th EG, comprising of QU'APPELLE, SASKATCHEWAN, SKEENA and RESTIGOUCHE, attacked 3 patrol boats off Brest: V715 was sunk but not before hitting QU'APPELLE and SASKATCHEWAN many times with small calibre gunfire.

 

M.I.D. citation: JEANNOTTE, Reynold Joseph, Telegraphist, V11421, Posthumous, Mention in Despatches, RCNVR, HMCS QU'APPELLE - Awarded as per Canada Gazette of 20 January 1945 and London Gazette of 3 October 1944. "For outstanding leadership, skill and devotion to duty in H.M. Canadian Ships QU'APPELLE, SKEENA, Saskatchewan and RESTIGOUCHE in a successful action with enemy trawlers and U-boats."
