In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
STONHAM, Ferne Alexandra (née Garland) - 100, formerly of Riverglade, NB passed away just two months from her 101st birthday, at her home at the Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John, NB on Sunday, April 11, 2021. Born in Chipman, NB she was the daughter of the late Warnock and Annie Garland.
Ferne was a longstanding member of the Highfield Baptist Church, however in recent years she attended the former Riverglade Baptist Church (Cornerstone Community Church). She was a member of the Salisbury Legion, and served with the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRENS) Medical, in the Second World War. Ferne loved crafts, knitting, and cared for and enjoyed many of nature’s smallest creatures; taking cats into her home and feeding the birds.
Survived by her nephew, Paul (Robin) Johnson of Florence, South Carolina, US; special friends, Daniel and Irene Ferguson, and Margaret Hodgson, who always made themselves available to care for Ferne, and genuinely enjoyed her company.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at the Salisbury Funeral Home Chapel (3350, Route 106, Salisbury West, NB, 506-372-4800) on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 2:00 pm. Covid restrictions in place. A web-link to livestream the service will appear on the funeral home website. Interment at the Glades Cemetery at a later date.
If desired, memorials to the Cornerstone Building Fund would be appreciated. (Salisbury Funeral Home)
