In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
CHARLES, Mary (née Parker) - Died peacefully July 22, 2004. Born in St. John's, Nfld, schooled in England. After graduation from the University of Toronto, joined the WRCNS in operational intelligence during WWII. Predeceased by her brothers Jay and John. During the many moves with her husband, she still found time for her eight children, seven grandchildren and for her many friends. She enjoyed people, entertaining them in her own inimitable fashion. In the 1960's she was instrumental in helping with the procurement of a new school for the local Tarslip people, was a generous benefactor for the Songhees children. She was a long-time supporter of the John Howard Society and of Father Abraham's work with children in India. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank all the people who have given her such good care at the Birch, Arbutus and Ashgrove units at the Priory Hospital. Friends who wish may send donations to the Greater Victoria Eldercare Foundation. Memorial service will be announced at a later date. (Ottawa Citizen 30 Apr 2012)
