In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
WALLS, Audrey Viola (née HOSKIN) - October 29, 1919 - October 27, 2013 "Heaven is our true home." Audrey was anticipating her final destination with great joy! Two days short of 94 years ago, she was welcomed to the world by her parents, Lloyd and Eva Hoskin. Six years later, the family was complete with the arrival of her sister, Elaine. Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Audrey graduated from Magee High School and went on to Business College. Audrey joined the Navy WRCNS in 1942 and served in Montreal until 1944. She met her intended, the handsome Douglas Walls, following the war. Doug had served as a Sergeant in the Canadian Army. They were married on September 24, 1949. They were delighted with the birth of their son, James, in 1951 and their daughter, Patricia, in 1954. They moved to Calgary subsequent to Doug's promotion with Loomis Courier. Having a gift for hospitality, Audrey entertained often and their community of friends grew. Their son James married Sally and gave them two wonderful grandsons, Davis (1988) and Owen (1993). Audrey owned a picture framing/art shoppe at SouthCentre Mall. She also became an accomplished painter and was a member of the Brushstrokes during the 1980s and 1990s. She and Doug hiked, golfed, curled and skied with the Family Leisure Centre Seniors Group. Those who knew her marveled at her head for business, excellent memory and energetic spirit. Her greatest joy was spending time with her two grandsons; she was an exceptional Grandma! Her cherished family includes: son James, daughter-in-law Sally and grandson Owen. There are those on the west coast who mourn her loss: nieces and nephews of the Walker and Walls family and the Steel family in Edmonton. The loving care she received from the nursing staff at Tudor Manor (Stafford Foundation) was greatly appreciated, making her final days in palliative care gentle ones. She was predeceased by daughter Trisha (1992), husband Doug (2004), grandson Davis (2007) and sister Elaine (2009). What a glorious reunion on "the other side!" A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 2 at Bonavista Evangelical Missionary Church, 1509 Lake Ontario Drive S.E., Calgary at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Murray Swalm officiating.
