In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
SHILLINGTON, Fedora Violette (née BOISSONNAULT) - In the early hours of March 6, 2013, Fedora passed peacefully into heaven at the age of 91. She leaves behind her devoted husband, Alex, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage.
Fedora will be lovingly remembered by her six children: Richard (Joan), Edward (Janet), Robert (Corinne), Clifford (Barb). Brenda (Terry), and Keith (Anne); 21 grandchildren, and 15 great-children.
Recently living in Kelowna, BC, Fedora was born and raised in Balmoral, New Brunswick as the oldest of 11 children (four brothers and six sisters). She left home at 18 and moved to Toronto where she worked as a tailor and then joined the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRENS) in 1943 where she served as a seamstress both in Canada and overseas. It was during her time as a WREN that she met and married a young sailor named Alex Shillington.
Following the war, Fedora and Alex moved to Saskatchewan where they worked together on their farm and started raising a family. They moved to Edmonton in 1966. Fedora will be remembered as being a gentle and calm woman of great faith and wisdom. She was devoted to caring for her husband and children who fondly recall her beautiful sewing, hand-knit sweaters, homemade buns, and pies.
A Funeral Mass will be held in Edmonton on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Annunciation Roman Catholic Church (9420 - 163 Street) with internment to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. (The Edmonton Journal 09 Ma 2013)
